Wheelscene interviews JP Primiano (ButterTV)

We talk to the man behind some of the best competition videos in the past several years, find out how he balances his responsibilities as a new father, and learn about the numerous projects he has in the works.

Butter TV has been responsible for some of the best competition coverage in recent years, documenting Winterclash, Blading Cup and countless others, showcasing the biggest gatherings in the USA and Europe. In addition to the highest quality and most inventive representation of international blading events, it has also been responsible for an ever-growing number of mini documentaries featuring pivotal figures within blading culture, including Brian Freeman, Montre Livingston and more. If you are only interested in standard skate sections, Butter TV has got that base covered as well. Justin Brasco currently has three outstanding parts in a uniquely themed video series and there are more instalments to come. The man behind this expanding library of top tier skate media is JP Primiano.

If you have seen any of Butter TV’s productions, it will come as no surprise that JP Primiano works within the film and television industry. His videos are always exceptionally well filmed, meticulously edited and feature strong stylistic concepts. He has worked with some of the biggest names in blading and has projects in the works with Jon Julio, Soichiro Kanashima and more. However, 2020 hasn’t been the kindest to the tirelessly working creator. A hard drive containing years of footage died at the start of the year, throwing several large projects into jeopardy. Then he found himself out of work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that has terrorised the globe. Despite these setbacks, he remains in high spirits and is more determined than ever to continue in his quest to document skating and bring it to a wider audience.

As we eagerly await his coverage from Winterclash 2020 and the numerous short documentaries he has in the works, it seemed like the perfect time to quiz JP about what else he is working on, how he manages to juggle fatherhood, a full-time job and being one of the most prolific filmers in blading, and what it was like growing up in one of the most iconic blading hubs in the world.
