Big Wheeling in Downtown Calgary with Shaun Unwin

Watch this video to see Shaun use his Wizard skates to play with the beautiful architecture in downtown Calgary.

In this video I venture downtown with Alex Cochennec and Jeremy Macht for a some big wheel street skating. This was a fun afternoon of skating. It is mid November and the weather is unusually nice. 15 degree celsius, mid November in Calgary is a blessing to us skaters.

Along the way we ran into Juno and Ken. Two of my favourite people. They are a father son team that gives me inspiration. I hope that one day I can skate with my son the way Juno and Ken do.

First stop was the 8th and 8th park. It is a brutalist structure of raw concrete. The walls are built on a slight slope, almost vertical but not quite. This makes for a very interesting structure that has infinite possibilities. I had fun trying out some wall rides however I would like to go back there soon to try a different wall ride technique.

Next we went to the City Hall. Again there is some many possibilities. In the end I found a fun line of gaps and jumps.

Across from City Hall is the Olympic Plaza. Olympic Plaza is a gather place for Calgary residents. Olympic Plaza has been host to some amazing extreme sports events including DV8 and Snowjam. I hope to someday in the future hold a similar event.

Our final stop was the old Calgary Board of Education. Once this building was the best place to skating in Calgary. It was legendary for the low hubbas. The hubbas are now un skateable but there is are still many things to skate.
